Titans Sign CB Bush To Offer Sheet
By Jonathan Hutton March 13, 2009
Sources have confirmed the Titans have signed Green Bay Packers restricted free agent cornerback Jarrett Bush to an offer sheet.
Upon receipt of the signed offer sheet, the Packers will have seven days to either match the contract or decline to match, thereby making the contract with the Titans valid. Should Green Bay decline to match the offer, the Titans will not have to provide a draft pick as compensation because Bush was tendered at a level that only guaranteed the Packers a ''right of first refusal.''
The Titans hosted Bush, Oakland's Justin Miller, and Arizona's Eric Green at Baptist Sports Park last week in an effort to add depth to a depleted secondary following exits from Eric King, Reynaldo Hill, Tyrone Poole and potentially Chris Carr. Bush will fill in at defensive back behind Cortland Finnegan and Nick Harper but will not fill the void on kickoff returns, a spot Carr would return to if re-signed.
In three NFL seasons, Bush (6-0, 200) has played in 46 NFL contests with one start. His career totals include 24 tackles and nine passes defensed as a member of the Packers secondary, as well as 41 special teams stops on coverage units. In 2008, Bush appeared in all 16 games primarily on special teams and finished second on the club with 17 special teams tackles.
The California native saw his most extensive action as a nickel cornerback in 2007, appearing in 14 games with one start and registering career-highs with 23 tackles and eight passes defensed. As rookie, he played in all 16 games mostly on special teams and notched 13 special teams stops.
Bush was originally signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent from Utah State in 2006. He was claimed off waivers by the Packers from Carolina on Sept. 3, 2006. During his two-year stint at Utah State, Bush appeared in 22 games with 13 starts.
He garnered All-Western Athletic Conference honors for the Aggies in 2005 after recording 50 tackles, two interceptions and ranking sixth in the NCAA with 13 passes defensed.
Immediate terms of the offer sheet were not known.
