Titans Finalize Coaching Staff Changes

The Titans have announced changes to their coaching staff ahead of the opening training camp on Saturday. 

Craig Johnson will now hold the position of Assistant Head Coach and Running Backs Coach, Dowell Loggains has been designated as Quarterbacks Coach and the Passing Game Coordinator and Richie Wessman will serve as an offensive quality control assistant.

Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher said he feels confident in the staff changes.

“After some internal discussion, we have come up with a plan that will work well both from an offensive staff standpoint and in the best interest for the players and team,” Fisher said. “We are very fortunate to have a coach like Craig [Johnson] with his background and flexibility on our staff. He has coached running backs before and he has a deep knowledge of our offense. We sat and talked for a while and I know both of us are excited to see him in this new role. Both Dowell and Richie also deserve to have their responsibilities increase on the staff and I expect them to be successful in their new spots.”

Johnson has served on the Titans staff for the last ten years. He began as a Quality Control assistant and earned a promotion to Quarterbacks Coach after his first two seasons. Johnson helped three different Titans quarterbacks (Vince Young, Kerry Collins, and Steve McNair) earn five Pro Bowl bids in his eight years as Quarterbacks Coach.

Loggains, a former quarterback at the University of Arkansas, will begin his fifth year on the Titans staff.  He began work as a Quality Control coach in 2008.

Wessman will now hold the position of Offensive Quality Control Assistant in his fifth season with the organization and second as a coach.

The changes come on the heels of Kennedy Pola's resignation as Running Backs Coach as the former USC Trojan fullback returned to his alma mater to serve as USC's Offensive Coordinator.
