Kiffin Talks With Fisher Regarding Pola
Staff Report July 28, 2010
University of Southern California Head Coach Lane Kiffin has spoken with Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher in an attempt to resolve their differences over the hiring of Kennedy Pola as USC's new offensive coordinator. In an appearance Wednesday on ESPN, Kiffin said he and Fisher had come to a better understanding of the events surrounding Pola's exit. I feel very good, after a conversation with Jeff Fisher, that he now understands exactly what took place and I think he feels better about it, Kiffin said. Pola resigned as the Titans running backs coach one week before the team opens training camp to accept the position of offensive coordinator at his alma mater. Fisher, himself a USC alumnus, publicly criticized Kiffin's actions, claiming the USC coach had violated a common practice in coaching circles by not informing Fisher of his desire to hire Pola before Kiffin spoke with Pola.
The criticism of Kiffin escalated on Tuesday when the Titans filed a lawsuit against USC. The suit alleges that Kiffin "maliciously" interfered with Pola's contract and that Pola had violated his contract by not obtaining written permission from the Titans before he spoke with USC.
"It's a lawsuit," Kiffin said. "I can't comment on it."
