Training Camp Day 7: Takeaways

By Christian Kaposy and Anna Glenn Grove

Today marked a week since the beginning of training camp. The pads came off for the day and practice was a little lighter than normal. The team is looking forward to their scrimmage tomorrow night at Nissan Stadium where they will divide the players and coaches into two teams to compete and have a little fun against one another and for fans.

Late Game Scenarios:

Preparing for tomorrow’s scrimmage, Mike Vrabel decided to work on clock management scenarios during the second half of practice. With third down upcoming and 23 seconds on the clock, the offense practiced spiking the ball with a few seconds left on the clock after picking up the first or running the field goal team onto the field on fourth down. To conclude practice, the defense put the offense to the test in a 2 minute drill. The offense went four and out twice, failing to pick up a first down on two tries.

Newcomer to the Receivers:

Papi White joined the Titans roster on Wednesday after placing Cam Batson on IR. In just his third practice, White was targeted several times during the team period and made some impressive grabs. It has taken very little time for White to catch up on time he has missed, with receiver coaches Rob Moore and Luke Steckel assisting him throughout practice. This could be a guy who makes plays late in ball games throughout the preseason.

Light Work Day Before Scrimmage:

Preparing for Saturday’s team scrimmage at Nissan Stadium, practice did not have the same intensity that it did in the first six days of camp. With the pads off, there was not as much contact in individual and team periods. Some of the situational periods were not at full speed, more like three-fourths speed. The Titans should be energized and refreshed for tomorrow’s big event at Nissan Stadium.

Maintenance Day for Vets:

Just as Delanie Walker and Jack Conklin were back from their maintenance day yesterday, Rodger Saffold, Cameron Wake and Wesley Woodyard got theirs today. Woodyard traveled to Canton, Ohio to honor the late Pat Bowlen and former teammate Champ Bailey, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and to support a Play 60 Event. Corey Davis left practice early and Vrabel said it was to give him some maintenance time as well.

“I think that we try to do some maintenance days for guys,” Vrabel said. “[Davis is] kind of on the borderline with some other guys that aren’t on the regular schedule.”
